Dy CM Surinder Choudhary Inspects Key Road and Bridge Projects in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, October 29, 2026 – Emphasizing strict adherence to developmental deadlines and quality standards, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary conducted an extensive tour of Udhampur district on Wednesday to personally inspect ongoing infrastructure projects.

The Deputy Chief Minister inspected the developmental works on the vital PWD road stretching from Jakhani Naka Point via Lower Balli, which is currently being executed under NABARD. During his site visit, he expressed serious concern over the slow pace of the construction. Taking immediate administrative action, he directed the Executive Engineer PWD to issue a show-cause notice to the concerned contractor and mandated that the road project must be completed by December 20, 2026.

Surinder Choudhary was accompanied by top officials, including Chief Engineer PWD R&B (Chenab Zone) Ashok Kumar Khokhar, Superintending Engineer Shivangi Gupta, and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Umesh Shan. The Dy CM instructed the Superintending Engineer to closely monitor the execution and ensure zero compromise on quality standards.

The tour also included an inspection of the construction site of the critical 165-metre-span steel girder double-lane motorable Salmay bridge over the River Tawi, located on the Udhampur-Ghordi road. The Deputy Chief Minister directed executing agencies to deploy additional manpower and machinery, suggesting the adoption of double-shift operations to accelerate the pace of construction.

In addition to reviewing infrastructure projects, Choudhary visited the Government Girls Middle School in Sharda to assess local educational facilities. He inspected the staff attendance register, inquired about the school’s infrastructure, and interacted with students, encouraging them to remain focused on their academic goals. Later, he visited the historic Sharda Mata Temple to pay obeisance and pray for the peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir.
