PM Modi Reviews Rs 16,000 Crore Projects, Emphasizes Outcome-Based Governance and Faster Execution

NEW DELHI, October 29, 2026 – Emphasizing the urgent need for faster execution of critical infrastructure projects and stronger Centre-State coordination, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 54th PRAGATI meeting on Wednesday, reviewing projects worth over Rs 16,000 crore spread across 31 States and Union Territories.

PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) is an ICT-enabled platform that brings central and state governments together to review major projects, resolve administrative hurdles, and improve the delivery of public services.

During the meeting held at Seva Teerth, PM Modi specifically reviewed ongoing projects relating to the Railways, PM Ekta Malls, and Bulk Drug Parks. He strongly emphasized the need to eliminate implementation bottlenecks and ensure that projects meet their stipulated timelines.

Reviewing the redevelopment of the Ahmedabad railway station, the Prime Minister called for expediting the modernization of major railway stations nationwide to enhance passenger convenience. He stressed that modernized stations must function as multi-modal transport hubs with seamless connectivity to metro and other transport networks.

Focusing on pharmaceutical self-reliance, PM Modi reviewed the progress of Bulk Drug Parks in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh. He underscored the strategic importance of prioritizing the domestic production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and other essential inputs to reduce India’s dependency on external sources.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the potential of the PM Ekta Malls to provide wider markets for indigenous products, expand local enterprises, and support traditional artisans. He urged Chief Secretaries to regularly review the progress of these malls and integrate them with local tourism.

Turning his focus to welfare delivery, PM Modi directed Chief Secretaries to review government schemes alongside District Magistrates every month to identify gaps and ensure eligible beneficiaries receive prompt assistance.

He reiterated that “governance should be assessed by outcomes rather than expenditure,” noting that public funds must translate into tangible improvements in citizens’ lives. Referencing the Aspirational Districts and Blocks programs, he called for convergence among schemes and accountability at local levels.

Concluding the meeting, PM Modi urged ministries and state governments to tackle bottlenecks in “mission mode” and adopt a proactive work culture where officials take greater ownership. He advised administrators to anticipate challenges rather than waiting for them to disrupt progress.
