GURUGRAM, September 15, 2026 – Gurugram Police have escalated the charges in the recent high-profile hit-and-run incident involving a woman sports bike rider, officially adding an attempt to murder charge under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused, Kalyan Bainsla. The development comes after the survivor, Shivani Chauhan—known on social media as Sia—released a new video rejecting Bainsla’s claims that the collision was merely an accident. Following the registration of the more stringent charges, Bainsla, who had been evading authorities, was traced and arrested by police in Dausa, Rajasthan.
The incident, which took place on Sunday along Gurugram’s Golf Course Road, gained massive traction after viral footage recorded by cameras mounted on nearby motorcycles showed a car aggressively approaching the group and sideswiping Sia’s Aprilia RS 457. The impact violently threw her off the motorcycle, causing her to skid several metres along the asphalt. In her latest video statement, Sia questioned Bainsla’s narrative, asking why he did not stop to help at the scene if he was genuinely distressed by what he claimed was an unintentional mistake. She firmly asserted that the video evidence clearly demonstrates a deliberate hit. Furthermore, she alleged that another individual in the car had been making hand gestures prior to the collision, after which the vehicle turned around and attempted to chase her.
Initially, the police had registered an FIR under Sections 281 for rash driving and 125 for causing injury. However, following public outrage and intense appeals from Sia’s family regarding the lack of serious charges despite video proof, authorities comprehensively reviewed the CCTV and action camera footage. This led to the incorporation of the attempt to murder charge, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to 10 years. Senior police officer Sandeep Malik confirmed that the visual evidence strongly indicated the driver intentionally struck the biker. Following the traumatic ordeal, Sia expressed deep concerns over her safety and the broader law and order situation in the city, heavily criticizing the leniency shown toward rash four-wheeler drivers compared to the strict regulations frequently imposed on two-wheeler riders.
