JAMMU, October 5, 2026 – Continuing its strong push for sustainable urban development and water conservation, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has officially launched a major pond restoration project in Sainik Colony. The initiative, valued at ₹66.52 lakh, is being executed under the ongoing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (SHS) Campaign 2026.
The foundation stone for the revitalization project at Sector-F, Ward No. 70, was laid by Dr. Narinder Singh, the recently elected MLA for Jammu South. The ceremony saw significant participation, attended by the JMC Joint Commissioner (Works), senior municipal officers, the former Deputy Mayor, former councillors, and a large gathering of local residents.
The restoration is expected to transform a neglected site into a sustainable public and environmental asset. The project is designed to actively promote rainwater harvesting, significantly improve local groundwater recharge, and maintain ecological balance within the rapidly developing residential area. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh emphasized the critical importance of preserving traditional water bodies, noting that development works in Jammu South are increasingly focused on cleanliness, water conservation, and creating accessible green spaces.
This initiative falls under the JMC’s broader ‘Clean Ponds, Healthy Cities’ vision, which aims to systematically restore urban water bodies and promote environmentally sustainable neighborhoods across Jammu. Local residents enthusiastically welcomed the project, assuring municipal authorities of their full cooperation in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and long-term upkeep of the pond following its successful restoration.
