President Murmu Visits Historic Hadimba Temple and Atal Tunnel During Himachal Trip

MANALI, October 7, 2026 – Continuing her three-day official visit to Himachal Pradesh, President Droupadi Murmu visited the historic Hadimba Devi Temple in Manali and the strategically significant Atal Tunnel at Rohtang on Wednesday.

The President arrived at the Bahang helipad near Manali around noon on Tuesday, where she was formally received by Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta, Mandi Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut, and Manali MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur. Following the reception, she proceeded to the Circuit House in Manali, where she is scheduled to stay until her departure on October 8.

On Wednesday afternoon, President Murmu offered prayers at the ancient Hadimba Temple in Dhungri. Following her temple visit, the President traveled towards Sissu in the Lahaul Valley and toured the 9.02-km Atal Tunnel, becoming only the second President of the country to visit the engineering marvel. The tunnel is a crucial infrastructural link that provides year-round, all-weather connectivity between Manali and the Lahaul-Spiti region, while also serving as a vital supply route to the strategic borders of Ladakh.

Meanwhile, the President’s daughter, Itishree Murmu, visited the Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery and Estate located in Naggar. During an interaction with the museum’s curator, Dr. Larisa Surgina, Itishree praised the masterpieces of the renowned Russian artist Nicholas Roerich, famously known as the “Master of Mountains.” She spent time interacting with local children, posing for photographs, and expressed a keen desire to revisit the gallery alongside the President in the future.

Stringent security, traffic management, and emergency response protocols were successfully deployed across Manali, the temple premises, and the tunnel areas to facilitate the high-profile State visit.
