REASI, September 15, 2026 – A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two people and left five others injured when a passenger minibus overturned in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning. The incident took place at around 8:40 AM in the Battalgala area near the Bakkal tunnel. According to officials, the ill-fated vehicle was travelling from Saranghdar towards Reasi when the driver suddenly lost control of the wheel. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the accident was triggered by a sudden tyre burst, which caused the minibus to skid out of control and overturn on the roadway.
Local authorities and rescue teams quickly rushed to the spot to assist the victims. A 48-year-old man was tragically found dead at the scene, while the remaining six passengers were immediately evacuated and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical attention. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, one of the critically injured individuals, aged around 35, succumbed to their injuries shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
The condition of two other passengers was deemed highly critical, prompting medical personnel to refer them to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu for advanced, specialized treatment. The local police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated a formal investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading up to the fatal crash. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over the area, highlighting the ongoing need for strict vehicle maintenance checks and road safety measures on the challenging hilly terrains of the region.
