NEW DELHI, October 10, 2026 – Prominent YouTuber and social media commentator Dhruv Rathee was detained by the Delhi Police from his residence in Gurugram’s Sector 56 on Saturday. The detention took place just hours before a scheduled mass protest at Jantar Mantar organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which Rathee reportedly intended to join.
Police sources confirmed the detention, framing it as part of a broader preventive crackdown across the National Capital Region (NCR) to maintain law and order. Earlier this week, the Delhi Police had officially denied permission for the CJP’s proposed demonstration against the Election Commission, citing security considerations and unmet procedural requirements.
Following the denial of permission, the national capital has been placed under a heavy security blanket. Authorities have heavily deployed personnel at strategic locations, intersections, and border checkpoints to prevent demonstrators from converging at the Jantar Mantar protest site.
The police have actively stepped up preventive detentions to thwart the mobilization of the agitators. According to official reports, around 150 protesters have already been detained from various locations within the New Delhi area as law enforcement agencies continue to enforce strict restrictive measures. The detention of Rathee, along with several other prominent CJP leaders earlier in the day, has significantly escalated the political standoff in the capital.
